Change Default Folder?

I had to reinstall Windows (ugh!) and in reinstalling POPFile, I am not able to point it to the non-standard location where I kept my POPFile data folder.

Can anybody remind me how to get POPFile to select a folder location other than the default?

Many thanks!

Mitch

I found a way during the installation process to identify an alternate data folder location, but I cannot get POPFile to use the existing db info. It wants me to create all new folders and retrain the software. How do I get around this? Thanks.

I am not able to point it to the non-standard location where I kept my POPFile data folder ... but I cannot get POPFile to use the existing db info.

Am I right in thinking you still have a copy of your POPFile data folder but when you try to tell the installer to use this old data it refuses to do so?

I suspect the installer displays a message complaining that the path you are trying to select contains spaces.

By default Windows supports short file names so, for example, "C:\Program Files\POPFile" can be referred to as "C:\PROGRA~1\POPFILE". If this mode has been disabled for a particular drive then the installer will refuse to accept a path which contains spaces. This limitation apples to the folder used for the POPFile program files and to the folder used for the POPFile user data.

If you are seeing that message then the easiest way around it is to copy your old POPFile data folder to a new location which does not use any spaces in its path. Then all you need to do is run the adduser.exe program from the POPFile program folder and when it asks for the user data location point it at the new location where the old data can be found.

The wizard should then offer to upgrade the existing data for you.
